Dal Tadka :-

You often make a visit to a restaurant & the most common dish that you order is of Dal Tadka. You might have tried a lot to make it at home, but was unable to make it taste like restaurant's Dal Tadka. So today i am going to share the recipe of Dal Tadka with all of you. So just take a look at the Recipe of Dal Tadka written below.

Ingredients :-

For the Dal :-
  • ½ cup tuvar dal.
  • ½ cup masoor dal.
  • 1 or 2 green chilies, chopped or slit.
  • 1 medium sized onion, chopped.
  • 1 medium size tomato, chopped.
  • 1 tsp grated or chopped ginger (optional).
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder.
  • a pinch of garam masala powder (optional).
  • a pinch of asafoetida/hing.
  • 2 cups water.
  • 1 tsp kasuri methi/dry fenugreek leaves, crushed.
  • 1 or 2 tbsp cream (optional).
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
  • salt as required.

for the tempering/tadka :-
  • 2 tbsp Ghee.
  • 1 tsp cumin.
  • 5-6 garlic cloves.
  • 2-3 red chilies.
  • a pinch of hing.
For garnish:
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves.
  • 1 tbsp cream (optional).

Method :-

1.) First rinse the pulses in water.

2.) Add chopped onions, tomato, green chilies, ginger, hing & turmeric powder along with the pulses in a Pressure cooker.

3.) Add salt and two cups water.
4.) Mix well and pressure cook the pulses for 4-5 whistles or till done.
5.) Once cooked mash the Dal with the help of masher or back of a wooden spoon.

6.) Adjust the consistency of the Dal with the help of water.

7.) So add some water to get the desired consistency and simmer for 3-4 minutes.

8.) Once the desired consistency is reached, you can add cream (optional).

9.) Garam masala powder, crushed Kasuri methi & chopped coriander leaves and switch off the fire.

10.) Now mix well the Dal & check the salt by tasting it.

11.) Cover the dal with a lid & cook for 5-10 minutes.

For tempering :-
1.) Heat Ghee in a pan.

2.) Add cumin and fry the cumin.

3.) The cumin should get fried and not remain raw but don’t let them burn.

4.) Now add red chilies, asafoetida and chopped garlic.

5.) Let the garlic fry for 5 minutes until golden brown.

6.) Once the garlic gets browned pour the entire tempering along with the Ghee into the dal.

7.) Now you can mix the dal or serve the dal tadka with the tempering on top it.

8.) Garnish dal tadka with coriander leaves.

Now your Dal Tadka is ready to serve. Have this fantastic Dal tadka hot with some steamed rice or jeera rice. You can also use butter or Oil in place of Ghee for tempering.
